Raise a glass of milk to new traditions!

Oatmeal raisin cookies
There are pros and cons to having an insta-family. I think one of the biggest cons are all the things we're going to miss out on (like first steps, first bday, first day of school). However, one of the pros would definitely be all the traditions we're going to start for ourselves. Our case worker has said that adopted children crave traditions (mostly unconsciously) so George and I have been trying to create as many as possible.

For example, we try to make Friday evenings family night. That means no TV/movies, just games and other fun stuff. However, after a long week this isn't always possible (but we always have the intention!)

We also started a Sunday evening tradition a few weeks ago which has been gaining traction as of late.

Our recipe for new traditions:

2 part bubble bath
1 part shower
3 clean pajamas
1 storybook
1 tray of cookies

Directions: After dinner, throw 2 boys in a bubble bath and let them play until wrinkly. Coerce other boy into the shower. Mix it up the following week. Once the timer goes off, put each boy in a new pair of clean pajamas. Pour 5 glasses of cold milk and set a tray of freshly baked cookies in front of them. Read a chapter from storybook. Tuck into bed.

And after the kids are tucked away, George and I continue with our own tradition: The Simpsons and Family Guy.  Yes, we're those kind of people.
